Machine and Hand Embroidery, some with Wax Entrapment                                               Home

Having worked on producing embroidery solely by hand, and this taking many, many hours to complete, I have recently experimented with machine embroidery and have become addicted.

The machine embroidery is done with an open machine embroidery foot on the machine, and although this fantastic, miraculous machine does have computerised patterns, I have not used any of them yet.

I don't envisage the machine embroidery replacing that done by hand, but I am working on combining both techniques.

As yet, on the machine I have discovered quilting, using some of the fantastic fabrics out there, and fusing and distressing fabrics, then applying embroidery over the top.

Regarding the fusing and distressing of fabrics, I have used man made fabrics such as organza, and have used a heat tool to burn the fabric back from the stitching.  Further, more complex embroidery is then worked over this again and again until the desired effect is made.  Some of the smaller pieces have been made into brooches.

The quilted pieces have relied on fabrics acquired through Seam Star, Fabric Rehab and Fabric Inspirations with various buttons as embellishments.
