ABOUT THE ARTIST

I am Head of Art and Design at Hope Valley College, (a Specialist Technology and Arts College), in the Peak District and have worked there for almost six years now. Prior to this, I had several years out of teaching to raise my two young children, but I have been a teacher of Art and Design since 1982. I have taught in Berkshire, London and Derbyshire.

However, despite earning a living and raising a family, I have always been an artist and have tried to maintain my own practice throughout my life and career.

My degree is in Art and Music and I studied at Nottingham. I am still a keen musician, I play clarinet and tenor and alto sax, and I love performing as a member of the bands and ensembles we have at Hope Valley College.

I live with my husband and children in Buxton, we have lived in this lovely, historic town for ten years now, but I am originally from a small village in Nottinghamshire.

Previously,I had never tried to exhibit any of my work, although I had always wanted to.  I have been focused on earning a living (paying the bills whilst living in London was particularly tough!), pursuing my teaching career and raising my children, but I have now joined High Peak Artists and Craft Workers Association and I am hoping to engage with many more festivals and exhibitions in the near future, especially locally.
